July Virtual Outreaches for Home Educators

Summer is here, a time for having fun and enjoying nicer weather – but was this how people in the past experienced the sunny season? Home-educated students have two chances to learn about the life and times of York’s former inhabitants in our upcoming July virtual outreach sessions, hearing from a Viking settler of Jorvik and a humble servant working in a wealthy townhouse of Barley Hall.

These interactive and informative virtual outreach sessions are delivered live via Zoom but, if the time listed does not suit your schedule, we are also offering an on-demand, recorded version of the sessions to watch at your convenience.

Meet a Viking: Settlers and Trade

Live: Friday 10th July, 10:00

Recorded: Tuesday 14th July

Not everyone in the Viking period was a raider! Meet a friendly settler and learn how they made a living, kept a home and traded with distant lands.

Meet a Barley Hall Servant

Live: Friday 10th July, 13:00

Recorded: Tuesday 14th July

Learn about life in York’s medieval townhouse, Barley Hall. Discover what it was like for both the family and the servants living there – would you have enjoyed the servant’s life?

Attendance for home educators costs just £5 per family per session and these sessions are suitable for children working at Key Stage 2 or 3. The links for the live sessions will be sent to the email provided on the booking at least 24 hours before the events. The recorded session links will be provided at the date and time on the booking.

All live sessions for home education families will take place on Zoom, and the connection is for one device only. Please note that these sessions are intended for under-18s only and a responsible adult must be present with each family connection throughout, and must agree to assume all responsibility for managing camera and microphone use. Please read our Virtual Outreach Risk Assessment before booking.

You can also book by emailing [email protected] or telephoning 01904 615505.
