History Sessions - Key Stage 4/5
Our History Sessions are specially designed to support Key Stage 4 and 5 studies. Explore topics such as the impact of Viking migration in Britain or the development of medieval medicine.
These interactive sessions work as a perfect complement to visiting our attractions, or they can be delivered as stand-alone online workshops if you’re unable to visit in person.
Invasion and Impact: Unearthing Viking-Age York (GCSE/A Level) History Sessions
Learn about Viking migration and expansion in Britain. Using well-preserved archaeological evidence from Viking York, students will analyse and interpret remains to understand life in the 10th century.
This session supports the following exam boards:
- Edexcel: Migrants in Britain 800–Present Day
- AQA: Migration, Empires and the People c.790–Present Day
- OCR: The Viking Age 790–1066
- OCR: Viking Expansion 790–1066.
Prepare your students for a trip to JORVIK, or run this session as a stand-alone workshop tailored to your learning objectives. If you’re unable to visit us in person, this session can also be presented as a stand-alone workshop on Viking-age York, tailored to fit your learning requirements.
Meet the Medieval Medic (GCSE) History Sessions
Explore medicine through time with our medieval barber-surgeon. Students will learn about contemporary attitudes to illness and wellbeing, and the treatments available in the medieval city.
Topics include:
- Hospitals and the Church’s role in healthcare
- Treatments and practices used by physicians, surgeons, and other healers
- Ancient medical writings by Hippocrates and Galen.
This session supports the GCSE thematic study on medicine through time.
