Home Educator Attraction Visits
Home Educator visits at our attractions give families and small groups the chance to explore history and archaeology through hands-on activities and immersive learning experiences.
This page provides helpful information for planning home educator visits at York Archaeology’s attractions. You’ll learn how to book for families and groups, explore our activities, and discover what to expect from your visit.
Home Educator Experience Days
The easiest way to make the most of a visit to our attractions is to book on to one of our new home educator experience day packages. Select the correct number of tickets for your party and the rest is taken care of, with a dedicated schedule designed just for home educating families to experience our immersive learning offer together.
The next Home Educator Experience Day is Tuesday 21st July 2026, where you can join us for a Viking-themed day of exploration and hands-on activities, brought to you for the first time by JORVIK Viking Centre and the Yorkshire Museum.
We have partnered with York Museums Trust to bring home educators an Experience Day that includes an interactive trip back in time at JORVIK Viking Centre, a visit to the Yorkshire Museum to participate in their exciting Discover: Viking North workshop, and time for a packed lunch built into the schedule.
10:30 Visit JORVIK Viking Centre
12:00 Lunch in the DIG Lunch Space
13:00 Discover: Viking North workshop at the Yorkshire Museum
14:30 Departure
- Visiting JORVIK Viking Centre: Step back in time to the year 960 and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Viking-age York. Pupils can experience life in Viking York, see 1,000-year-old artefacts, and learn directly from our friendly Viking guides.
- Voyage into the past with the Yorkshire Museum’s Discover: Viking North workshop: Explore the museum and handle real Viking objects to uncover the lives of Viking warriors, traders and craftsmen in the north of England. Afterwards, create your very own piece of Scandinavian jewellery using clay.
Tickets are £12.00 per child (aged 5-16) with one accompanying adult going free, but you can book additional child places at £12.00 and adult places at £10.00 as needed for your party. Please note that we require a ratio of at least 1 adult per 5 children in your party and children need to be accompanied by an adult at all times throughout the experience day. All activities are suitable for ages 7-14.
Before placing your booking, you may wish to read our FAQs about these home educator visits or please contact our Reservations team at [email protected] if you have any specific requirements you wish to discuss with us first.
Access: Accessibility information for learning visits to York Archaeology attractions can be found here and for the Yorkshire Museum here.
Please be advised that, as the JORVIK Viking Centre is based underground, we are only able to admit one wheelchair user in the building at a time. In addition, due to fire evacuation requirements at the Yorkshire Museum, we can allow access to no more than four wheelchair users in the building at any one time. If you have a member of your party who uses a wheelchair, please contact our Reservations team directly at [email protected] rather than using the online booking portal below.
Alternatively, please call our Reservations team today on 01904 515505, noting the number of children and adults in your party.
