Essential Information
Our virtual outreach sessions are designed for class sizes of up to 40 children to ensure the best interactive experience. You can include students learning from home so that everyone in your group can take part.
We currently support Zoom and Google Meet, but we can discuss other video conferencing platforms if required. Everything you need to know about your Virtual Outreach session, including procedures and risk assessments, can be found in our handy Virtual Outreach teachers’ guide (PDF, 6 MB).

Virtual Outreach Prices
We offer discounts for multiple bookings, making it easier to support your class across a term or include other classes studying the same topic.

NEW for 2026! Virtual Outreach Discount Package
For learning groups of 15 or more students, you can book sessions at a special reduced rate of £60 per virtual session until December 2026.
This package can complement a visit to our attractions, e.g., an introductory session before a trip to DIG or a Q&A with a Viking from JORVIK Viking Centre.
To book a discounted session alongside your attractions visit:

- Quote your visit reference number
- Specify how many virtual outreaches you want, the topics, your preferred platform (Zoom/Google Meet), and your preferred dates/times
- Sessions can be booked up to one month before your trip and two months after.
How to Book
1. Choose your sessions and platform
Read through the descriptions of the Viking, Medieval or Archaeology session themes on offer to make your selection. Create an account and download the video conferencing software you wish to use.
2. Contact our Reservations team
Submit your enquiry via our Virtual Outreach form. Please include the following:
- Preferred dates and times
- Number of children
- Ages of pupils
- Any special education needs
Tip: Book at least six weeks in advance to secure your preferred dates. Shorter notice may limit available time slots.
3. Receive a schedule
Our team will provide a proposed schedule for your session(s). Confirm your acceptance in writing within three working days to guarantee your booking.
4. Check confirmation paperwork
Review all details and provide additional information if needed. Return via:

No payment is required at this stage unless you choose to pay in advance (international schools must pay in advance).
5. Test call with the Learning Team.
We will provide a link for a test video call. Set up all equipment (speakers, projectors, whiteboards, microphones) as you will use them during the session. We can also discuss any learning aims and objectives for the session.
6. Take part in your Virtual Outreach session
Enjoy an interactive, engaging session with our expert presenters.
7. Provide feedback
Complete our post-session feedback form to enter a prize draw for a free virtual outreach session.
