Home Educator Sessions

Are you a Home Educator looking to bring history to life in your lessons? Throughout the year we offer a range of virtual sessions especially for Home Educators.

Be the first to hear about our special Home Educator virtual sessions by signing up to our Learning Mailing List.

Viking Virtual Outreaches

Time travel to 10th-century York this summer with our Viking Virtual Outreach sessions! These interactive sessions will be delivered live via Zoom, but if these times do not suit your schedule we are also offering an on-demand video version of each session to watch at your convenience.

Meet a Viking: Settlers and Trade

Key Stage 2 (Ages 7-11)

Live sessions: Thursday 6th June, 10am and 11am

Recorded session: Thursday 13th June

Meet a friendly settler from the 10th-century city of Jorvik in this fun and interactive session. Discover more about how they made their living, kept a home and the items they traded with distant lands.

Meet a Viking: Settlers and Trade

Key Stage 3 (Ages 11-14)

Live sessions: Thursday 13th June, 10am and 11am

Recorded session: Thursday 20th June

Your Viking host will give learners a more in-depth introduction to the evidence for Viking-age settlement in York, exploring these same themes of houses, crafts and international trade.

Please note: the content will be largely the same on both days, just pitched for the appropriate key stages, so we would not recommend booking both sessions for the same child.

Attendance for home educators costs just £5 per family per session and you will receive further information about how to join the session – and the chance to submit questions to your Viking host – in the week leading up to your session. Please note that live sessions are not recorded. The on-demand sessions will be shared via YouTube link and will be available for two weeks.

All live sessions for home education families will take place on Zoom, and the connection is for one device only. Please note that these sessions are intended for under-18s only and a responsible adult must be present with each family connection throughout, and must agree to assume all responsibility for managing camera and microphone use. Please read our Virtual Outreach Risk Assessment before booking.

Procedural information as well as risk assessments can be found in our handy Virtual Outreach Teacher’s Guide

You can also book by emailing [email protected] or on the phone 01904 615505.

We are also happy to take bookings from home education organisations looking to book  several families onto the same virtual outreach session and you can choose from any of our  themes.
